Tod came into this world on a cold winter's day in Las Vegas Nevada. He was born the third of four siblings to Jerold and Lorna Oppenborn. The Oppenborn family first moved to Las Vegas in 1952, when Jerold was transferred to the Lake Mead Naval Base, now Area II, Nellis Air Force Base, as a member of the U.S. Navy. Tod grew up happy in Las Vegas, attending elementary school, Roy Martin Middle School and then graduating from Las Vegas High School located downtown.
After high school graduation, Tod enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served his country for four years before receiving an Honorable discharge and returned to Las Vegas. Fresh out of the Navy, Tod weighed all of his options for his future and decided to use the GI Bill to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Tod graduated from UNLV in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Earth Science. After graduation, Tod went to work in the environmental field and has spent the last 19 years protecting Nevada's environment.
Tod has worked in virtually every aspect of the environmental profession in Nevada. In 2006, Tod started working for the U.S. Air Force at Nellis Air Force Base in their award winning Environmental Department as a Conservation Specialist. He now manages the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) program on Nellis Air Force Base.
Tod first moved to District 12 in 1962 when he was 3 years old. He has lived in the district ever since, except for during his enlistment in the Navy. In total he has lived in the district for 47 years. Tod knows the needs of the citizens of this district. Tod knows Las Vegas and Tod knows Nevada.
Tod has always voted, although has never been politically active, not until September 11th, 2001. When President George Bush refused to secure our Nation's Boarders and Ports in a time of war, he knew then something was not right in our government. When the Tea Party movement began, he became politically active for the first time. He joined the Tea Party movement and attended the Washington D.C. protest.
You have my oath that I will work tirelessly to lower your taxes, bring state spending under control, reduce the size of government and protect the sovereignty of Nevada.
